The project
The requirement
Mexborough Library’s mural is part of the Creative Pathway project coordinated by Fox Gallery. Artist Peachzz (Megan Russell) worked with local residents and school pupils on a river wildlife design that wraps around the building, with an otter, fish and water birds visible from the street.
Urban Hygiene applied a clear anti-graffiti glaze once the painting was finished. It protects the artwork without hiding Peachzz’s colour and detail.

01 Challenge
What had to be solved
The mural covers a large, accessible exterior wall. Removing a tag directly from painted artwork can damage the image along with the unwanted mark. The finished piece needed a protective layer that would leave Peachzz’s colour and detail visible.
02 Solution
How the system was applied
After Peachzz completed the mural, Urban Hygiene applied anti-graffiti clear glaze over the painted brickwork. The clear finish leaves the river wildlife artwork visible and provides a surface for future graffiti removal.

What changed
We’re thrilled to have helped protect Peachzz’s beautiful river wildlife mural at Mexborough Library. It’s a brilliant piece of public art, and our anti-graffiti clear glaze keeps the colour and detail on show while making the wall easier to clean if it’s ever tagged.
