Your Art Deserves to Last
Trusted by street artists, muralists, and public art organisations across the UK. Our coatings give your work an invisible shield against vandalism, weather, and UV — without changing a single brushstroke.
The Problem
You’ve spent weeks — sometimes months — on a piece. It goes up. Within days, someone tags it. Rain starts pulling at the edges. UV fades the colour. Pollution dulls the finish. Without protection, outdoor art has a short and brutal lifespan.
Vandalism is the obvious threat. A single tag can appear overnight, and if it isn’t dealt with quickly, more follow. Removal without a protective coating usually means damaging the original work or paying for a full restoration. But the UK climate does its own damage too — freeze-thaw cycles crack exposed surfaces, UV bleaches colour season by season, and city-centre pollution leaves a film of grime that eats into unprotected finishes. Add in the everyday wear from thousands of visitors touching, leaning, and climbing, and unprotected outdoor art degrades far faster than most artists expect.
Urban Hygiene has been solving this problem for over 25 years. Our coatings create a tough, wipe-clean surface that keeps your work looking exactly as you intended — for decades, not months.

3-Step Product System
Protecting a piece of public art isn’t complicated, but it does need to be done right. Over 25 years of working with artists, sculptors, and art trail organisers, we’ve refined the process down to three steps.
First, you coat the finished work before it goes on public display. This gives it a tough, invisible barrier against spray paint, marker pens, weather, UV, and general wear. Second, you keep a maintenance kit on hand — because tags happen, and the faster you remove them, the less chance they attract more.
Third, for anything that won’t shift with a wipe, you’ve got a stronger remover that still won’t touch the artwork underneath. That’s it. Coat it, carry wipes, and keep a can of remover in the stores. Every product in the system is designed to work together, so there’s no guesswork about compatibility. And because the protective coating lasts 20+ years, you’re not reapplying every season — you’re doing the job once and maintaining it as needed.

FAQs
Will it change how my work looks?
The Art Varnish dries to a clear gloss finish that preserves colour and detail. On very textured or highly absorbent surfaces, we recommend a small test patch first to check the sheen.
Can I apply it over spray paint and acrylics?
Yes — once your artwork is fully dry and cured. Always patch-test to confirm compatibility and avoid any lifting.
How long does the protection last?
Our Art Varnish has 20+ years of proven real-world durability when applied and maintained correctly. The Anti-Graffiti Coating offers a similar 20-year service life.
What if someone tags my piece?
The coating creates a tough, wipe-clean surface. Use our Graffiti Wipes for quick removal on-site, or the Graffiti Remover Spray for more stubborn tags. The artwork underneath stays untouched.
Do I need specialist equipment to apply it?
No. Both products can be applied by brush, roller, or spray on a clean, dry surface. Follow the datasheet for best results.
Can you help with a larger project?
Of course. We’ve worked with organisations like Wild In Art on large-scale sculpture trails. Get in touch and our team will advise on quantities, application, and logistics.
